As far as I am concerned, I have only two doubts about this massive piece, released by Sideshow in 2017 and depicting one of the most classic battles of the Marvel world. The first concerns the proposed classification as a Maquette, instead of a Diorama (or, at least, a Comiquette): the piece, in fact, is a spectacular representation of the clash between Hulk and Wolverine and looks like a true materialization of a table of Comics, with no reference (to the best of my knowledge) to any movie; thus, the appelative Maquette is rather strange! The second (more relevant) puzzlement regards the excessively wide edition size (2500 pieces for the exclusive and even 4000 for the regular!) which, in my opinion, makes very hard to identify this statue as a true collectible. Apart from these two anomalies, I believe this diorama (!) is really an amazing piece, one of the best among the latest products of the American Company and a true must for any Marvel fan. The statue is huge: its size is 51 x 46 cm, with a heigth of 54 cm and a weigth of approximately 9 Kg. It was realized by a host of artists, including Martin Canale, Ariel Olivetti, Guillermo Barbiero and Alfred Paredes. The piece has a breathtaking visual impact, due to an excellent sculpt, an incredible chromatic contrast (between the dominat deep green of the giant and the bright colors of the mutant's suit) and a spectacular, dynamic pose. Wolverine attacks his enemy from above, pouncing on the green Goliath with the whole body hunched forwards and the claws of adamantium ready to strike a deadly blow. His physique is sculpted to perfection and clearly depicts the tension of the powerful muscles everywhere. Note the top-level details in the definition of biceps, triceps and abdominals, the swollen veins and the well depicted down on arms, the amazing muscle contours on back and legs, the perfect creases of the suit at neck level (due to the rotated head), the fine textures used on the yellow costume and on the darker parts of the boots. Not to mention the realism of the extremely dynamic pose, which really gives a feeling of power and angry rage! The body of Hulk is simply impressive: the legs are slighly bent and the pose points out the gigantic rib cage, with hyper-defined pectorals and abdominals. The right arm acts as a support for the enemy and has a clenched fist, while the left one is stretched backward with the open hand ready to hit. The muscular masses on arms, legs and on the back are so swollen than they look almost caricatural; nevertheless, compared to the rest of the body and the size of the rival, they exhibit a perfect proportion and highlight the unnatural and beastly strength of the Green Goliath. The painting is amazing and the very bright colors of both figures provide the piece with a top-level aesthetics. Look at the dark shades on every fold of Wolvie's gloves and boots or the perfect black triangles which stand out on the background yellow of his suit, at sides of the trunk. The deep green used for Hulk body is characterized, here and there, by slight yellowish streaks which help to emphasize the swollen veins and the tension of muscles and also offers a good contrast with the dark purple of the paints. The faces of both characters are very well done and show a great expressiveness. Hulk looks at the rival with a wide open mouth: the black eyebrows are large and the forehead is furrowed, while the well sculpted hair and the green eyes are colored with a great care. The face of Wolverine is even more aggressive, with gritted teeth, tense facial muscles and two white eyes which stand out in the dominant black color of the mask. The exclusive version provides an additional face of the mutant hero, in his original version, with unmasked eyes, thin black lines around the mouth and two smaller semi-rigid, lateral winglets. The base depicts a rocky terrain with some stones and a large tree trunk, literally broken into two parts by the weight and the huge foot of the green Goliath. The impact of this piece is incredible! In my opinion, after many years, Sideshow was finally able to realize a diorama worth of the old classics, which competes on equal terms with the aesthetics of the Hulk vs Spider Man and the dynamism of the Wolverine vs Sabretooth! An amazing collectible for all Marvel fans!
